Schreiner University Admissions Web site ranked top in the country
Site among the best at meeting demands and expectations of potential students

Schreiner University announced today the admissions features on its Web site were recognized as among the most highly rated in the country by the National Research Center for College & University Admissions (NRCCUA) 10th Annual Enrollment Power Index (EPI), an analysis of the admissions Web sites of more than 3,000 post-secondary institutions.

Schreiner ranked first among the top 10 liberal arts institutions, first among western colleges and universities and fourth overall out of more than 3,000 schools.

“Recognition of excellence is always a pleasure, especially when it is based on solid research and when it recognizes something that you really believe is important,” Dr. Tim Summerlin, Schreiner president, said. “This evaluation process is rigorous, and the success of our admission Web site is important to our recruiting efforts, so we take pride in the NRCCUA recognition. The thank you’s start with Web manager Judy Glaze, Sandy Speed and the admission and financial aid group, our IT team and our university relations group. This kind of excellence is surely worth celebrating.”

The research-based study rates how well the functionality and design of college and university admissions Web sites provide information to potential students and move them from prospect to applicant. The study graded the sites for each institution on a 100-point scale. Schreiner was one of only 135 institutions that received an A.

“We congratulate Schreiner University for having one of the top admissions related Web sites in the country,” said Don Munce, President of NRCCUA. “In today’s online environment, a quality Web site can now be the difference between a lost prospect and a new student. By developing a dynamic and up-to-date online information source, Schreiner is ensuring that prospective students have critical information at their fingertips that will help them make decisions about their college careers.”

The study examined 34 different criteria that are divided into five main categories:

  -  Prominence of an admissions office link on the institution’s home page (17.05 possible points).
  -  Admissions Web page design and ease of navigation (10.88 possible points).
  -  Online access to admissions materials (23.74 possible points).
  -  Additional admissions information (41.90 possible points).
  -  Ability to contact the admissions office (6.43 possible points).

To identify the admissions Web site features that have the most significant impact, an e-mail survey was sent to over 100,000 college-bound high school students asking them to rate admissions Web sites. Next, over 3,000 sites were evaluated to identify functional features present on each site. Statistical tests were then used to identify the functional features that were important to students and their relative importance.
