Vocational Nursing

About the DET

Vocational Nursing Applicants:  You may take the DET if you cannot submit scores either from THEA (previously called the TASP) or Accuplacer, passing all sections, ACT with a score of at least 20 or SAT test with a score of at least 940. Remember if you have a college English and Math class with a 2.0 GPA, you may be exempt from taking any test.  If you choose to take the DET you are only allowed to take it two times in a year.

Classes have tentatively been set to start June 2012 and January 2013.

DET Test Dates for
January 2013 Class
Friday, May 18, 2012
Friday, June 15, 2012
Friday, July 20, 2012
Friday, August 17, 2012

Application deadline date is August 15, 2012. In order to take the DET Exam you must have your file complete. There is a $15.00 testing fee that must be paid in advance to the Office of Admission. Your name must be on the list to test and you must bring a photo ID with you. The test will take about 2hrs and 45 minutes. You need to plan on being here about 3 ½ hours total.

The DET Exam will be given at:
Schreiner University
Weir Building Room 007
2:00 PM
Please report to the testing room by 1:45 PM

If you choose to take the DET Exam, you may want to purchase the study guide we have in the Schreiner Bookstore. It is called The DET Study Guide. The GED study guide may be helpful as well and you may find this book at the public library. Just a reminder the study guide(s) are not like the test. They give you examples of what could be on the test and they are to help you prepare for taking a timed test if it has been sometime since you have taken one.
