Mountaineer Leadership Conference

2010 Keynote Speaker

DAVID MULRY

David Mulry is associate professor, and chair of English at Schreiner University. He is English, and received a BA in Humanities with a focus in English literature from Middlesex Polytechnic in North London, and Ph.D. in English from the University of Kent at Canterbury. In a career that has involved a lot of travel and cultural experience before he landed in the Hill Country, he has taught in England, France, Greece and the US.

  David Mulry

Before he became a teacher, he worked in broadcasting for the BBC in London, and also as an outdoor pursuits instructor and leader--with a particular focus in kayaking and canoeing, during which time he led several trips whitewater kayaking in Wales, the Lake District of England, and the French Alps. His interests include soccer (Manchester United) and martial arts. He regularly talks at international conferences and publishes, particularly in his specialization field, the fiction of Joseph Conrad, an emigre Pole who became a captain in the British Merchant Marine and then became a celebrated writer in English (his third language).
