Cindy
came to Schreiner in 1996 from Freer, TX, where she was a four year letterman
in volleyball, basketball, and tennis for Freer High School. Cindy played
a key role on the Freer AA State Championship team (1994). In addition
to being an athlete Cindy was a stellar student and graduated Valedictorian
of her senior class.
Cindy joined the Mountaineer volleyball team and quickly worked her way
into the player rotation as a defensive specialist. By her sophomore year
she had emerged as one of the Mountaineers' top backcourt defenders. Cindy
was an intelligent player with very good technical skills. Her ability
to read on defense and her accuracy as a digger made her an exceptional
defender.
Cindy really came into her own in 1998, her junior year. She was among the team leaders in both digs/game and passing efficiency. Her precise ball control, both on serve receive and defense helped propel one of the top offensive teams in Mountaineer volleyball history. Her leadership on and off the court, and her toughness under pressure were sorely missed when she graduated early and missed her senior season.
An honors student in accounting, Cindy graduated from Schreiner in just three years. She was on the academic President's List every year and was selected ASC Academic All-Conference in 1998. In addition, Cindy was actively involved in student government and served in the peer tutoring program.
