Assistant Professor English (Full-time)
The Department of English at Schreiner University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of English (British/World Literature). Candidates should have university teaching experience in composition and literature courses. Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate an active research agenda, as well as experience advising undergraduate students. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position available August 2013. Teaching in the University's groundbreaking interdisciplinary core curriculum also is expected. Responsibilities include teaching, advising, and participation in curricular development and assessment. The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in departmental duties, committee service, campus activities, and to engage in scholarship and/or creative activities aligned with institutional goals. Teaching load is 12 hours per semester.
Qualifications: Position requires a Ph.D. in English or a related field with completion no later than August 15, 2013 for tenure track with emphasis in British literature (poetry, fiction, drama, film studies, creative non-fiction, literary theory, literary criticism, and rhetoric, and composition studies). Candidates must demonstrate an active research program in these fields as evidenced by scholarly publications and research presentations at professional conferences. Must have a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the applied field, and at least 1 year of unsupervised teaching experience in higher education. Must possess excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written form. Preferred: Some teaching experience in World Literatures and strong interest in digital humanities.
