Dr. Demmie Mayfield of San Antonio is a Kerrville native and a
Schreiner Institute high school graduate. He earned his BA from the
University of Texas and his MD from UT Medical-Galveston. Following
an internship in San Francisco and psychiatric residency in
Galveston, he served as surgeon, US Public Health Service at the
National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda. He was on the
faculty at Duke University Medical School, Brown University, and
Kansas University School of Medicine, where he was Chief of
Psychiatry. His principle research interests were alcoholism and
psychopharmacology, on which he has published extensively.
Dr. Mayfield completed his career at
UT Medical Center in San Antonio where he lives in retirement. It is
a very active retirement. He cycles many miles in the northwest
portion of the city five days in the week and at least three times
in the year takes cycling or scuba trips to various places around
the world. A long time supporter of Schreiner, Demmie is also a long
time Schreiner Oak.
