Michael Pate, who previously
served on the Schreiner
University Board of Trustees
from 1999-2008, rejoined the
board for a second term in
October 2009. A graduate of
Schreiner Institute (’71), Mr.
Pate received his B.S. in
mathematics at Texas Wesleyan
College, and then attended the
University of Texas School of
Law in Austin where he met his
wife Barbara and graduated in
December 1975. He worked in the
Texas Legislature for Sen. Max
Sherman while in law school,
then went back to work with him
as his chief of staff and the
committee counsel to the Texas
Senate Natural Resources
Committee after he graduated
from law school. After Mr.
Sherman retired from public
service, Mr. Pate worked for Lt.
Governor Bill Hobby, then moved
to Washington, D.C., to work for
U.S. Sen. Lloyd Bentsen. In
1980, he became Bentsen’s
legislative director. In 1986,
he joined Bracewell and
Patterson, LLP and soon became a
partner. His law practice is
primarily in the legislative
arena specializing in tax,
energy and corporate issues. He
became the managing partner of
the Washington office of
Bracewell and Patterson, LLP in
1998 and was also named the
co-section head of the
government relations and
strategy section. He enjoys
travel, golf and spending
weekends at his farm in
Virginia. |
