Fred Stevens grew up in Wisconsin and continues to spend time there in the summers at his cabin on Beaver Lake near Hayward. He came to Texas to pursue graduate work in 1973. He has taught biology at Schreiner University since 1977. In his spare time he likes to take his wife, Patricia Chastain, on wilderness canoe trips in Canada.
