Sport Management

In an email to Dr. Barry Shaw, Professor of Exercise Science and Sport Management at Schreiner, Brad Thomas (Class of 2012) writes:

"My job is to acquire new business for the Minnesota Twins.  I reach out to people who have never been season ticket or suite holders, as well as former season ticket or suite holders, and try to get them on board with the Twins.  I assist with customer relations and give clients information they need about the team and the ballpark.  As a salesman for the Club, I try to sell season tickets and Suites/Groups for the upcoming season.

Sport Management at Schreiner really gave me the springboard that I needed to get into a profession in Major League Baseball.  The biggest thing I've noticed is how big of a revenue stream the marketing and promotion is.  In Sport Marketing and Promotion at SU, I learned about naming rights and how many different aspects of the stadium have sponsors.  Here at Target Field, there is an official ice cream, pizza, and countless other official sponsors of the Minnesota Twins.

I have taken parts of every sport management class at SU to assist me in my job.  Sport law taught me about safety and risk management.  The amount of security used to maintain safety and well-being is tremendous.  History of Sport has helped me connect with potential customers, my Internship class taught me about apparel sales, and my Sport Marketing class taught me that the Budweiser Roof Deck shouldn't be placed next to anything named after another beer."
