In regards to the "college experience" what is the difference in living on campus as opposed to being a commuter?

Living on campus allows you to be more aware of the fun activities going on. As a commuter it is difficult to know or attend these activities. Also, living on campus allows you make great relationships with those in your hall, as well as students around campus. College should not have to be merely going to class & studying. There are many more aspects that you could miss out on by not being on campus. It is said that the friends you make in college are the ones you will keep for rest of your life. So make your "college experience" the best that you possibly can.

Student Life

What is there to do on-campus after school and on the weekends?

Schreiner University offers students a myriad of extra-curricular activities, on and off-campus, so there is never a dull moment for students. Students can participate in athletics at one of the many sports centers on campus, or they spend their evenings playing pool in the Corner Pocket. There's always a dodge-ball, kickball, or flag football tournament going on somewhere around campus.

The Department of Student Activities brings featured performers from all over the world for live music concerts, comedy shows, informative lectures, anything you can imagine. Last semester a rock band from Los Angeles, a country music singer, a famous attorney, a few comedians, an International folk guitarist/songwriter, (plus much more!) all played in the Corner Pocket.

Every week a group of students plays "Rock & Bowl" at the local bowling alley, and Student Activities plays movies in the fancy CCAC Theatre.

During the summer Campus Rec shows scary movies like "JAWS" and "LAKE PLACID" (< brave families gather, left, to watch LAKE PLACID) at the swimming pool and they have giveaways and contests.

Students are constantly talking about HOW MUCH there is to do around here!

Is there a rec center on campus?

We have a beautiful recreation center, the Floyd and Kathleen Cailloux Center built in 2001. The facility is a 41,000 square foot multipurpose building with theaters, a fitness center, pool tables and a food court.

The challenge is not really a higher difficulty in academics, but more so managing the abundance of time you now have with out being supervised by parents or teachers. Organize your time and you will be fine.

Because Schreiner is a small university, the professors are always willing to lend a hand. Also, Schreiner offers FREE (Yes, FREE!!) peer tutoring. You can sign up for tutoring by someone who has taken the class & at times is majoring in that area.
