Frequently Asked Questions

 |
Is Mountaineer Days Orientation
mandatory?
Yes. At Schreiner University we believe that orientation is
essential in assisting new students with their transition into
college and SU. During orientation, new students meet with a faculty
advisor to review course offerings and meet a variety of people from
faculty and administrators to other new and current Schreiner
students. Orientation will prepare you to become a true MOUNTAINEER.
Do I have to stay on campus for freshmen orientation?
Yes! It is required that all (this includes commuters living in the
surrounding area) student’s participating in Mountaineer Day’s I &
II stay one night on campus.
How will I get registered for classes?
You will select class preferences during MD and then your schedule
will be created based on intended major, previous work, assessment
and preferences.
How is my academic advisor assigned?
Based on your intended major, a professor from that area will most
likely be your first academic advisor.
What is the recommended course load for freshmen?
We recommend that freshmen try 16-17 credits at the beginning, see
how they schedule works and then if by several weeks into the term,
they find it’s too much, they can drop a class without any penalty
to their GPA. This dropping of classes is possible until one week
after midterm.
When can I purchase my books?
You may start to purchase your text books the third week in August
at the University Bookstore located in the Cailloux Campus
Activities Building (CCAC). You must have your Schreiner ID and a
copy of your class schedule (you will be given your schedule at
Monty Days check in).
What is Monty Days and is it required?
This program is mandatory for all incoming freshmen. It is a campus
wide effort to get you off to a great start at Schreiner as well as
unify the freshmen class. Monty Days is a required portion of the
UNIV 101 freshmen course.
When will I found out where I will be living on campus?
You will receive your housing assignment at the conclusion of
Mountaineer Days orientation.
When do I move into my Residence Hall?
Saturday, August 23, 2008. Check in will begin at 9am.
What are the immunization and Insurance requirements?
All incoming students are encouraged to have current immunizations
for Polio, MMR, Varicella and TD (or T-dap) and Hepatitis A and B
(according to the Texas Department of Health 2006 Guidelines). All
international students are required to have a TB skin test or chest
X-ray prior to registration. Health and accident insurance is
required for all resident and international students. Residential
and International students are billed on their student account for
the University plan unless the student has completed the waiver
process indicating current comparable insurance.
If a student has been awarded work study, when will he/she
actually be assigned a job?
Students must interview and be hired for work study jobs. Contact
Human Resources for specific information on work study openings. |
