Student Stories:  Elaine Dreeben

Elaine Murray Dreeben

Elaine (Murray) Dreebengraduated (debt-free!) in 2009  from Schreiner and was offered a full ride plus stipend to attend Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Kentucky. Since then, she has

  • Been ordained as a Presbyterian minister
  • Serves as the Pastoral Resident at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas
  • Married Sam Dreeben, whom she met at Schreiner

While a Schreiner student, Elaine was:

  • In the Honors Program
  • President of Celtic Cross, the campus Presbyterian group
  • A member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority
  • A residence assistant in both Flato and Pecan Grove Residence Halls

“I had a “both/and” rather than an “either/or” experience at Schreiner. Because of Schreiner’s size and diversity, I had the opportunity to be involved with many different types of activities and academic endeavors outside of my major field.”

“Although I came to Schreiner knowing I would pursue ministry, I never imagined it would be within the context in which I now pursue it. My sense of call has grown deeper since having the context of Schreiner University in which to doubt it, wrestle with it, explore it and ultimately pursue it to the next level.”
