Largest Turnout Ever for Annual
Alumni Soccer Game
August 25, 2012
Over 30 former Schreiner soccer players made their way back to campus on Saturday, August 25th, as the alumni played the current SU squad. It was a much cooler day than last year, with the game starting at 6pm and finishing just before dusk. It was an evenly matched game with over 12 alumni coming back from the last two graduating classes to play. The alumni team persevered with a goal in the 2nd half to win the match. Many of the returning players wore new jerseys made just for them for this annual match. It is a new initiative promoted by Mateo Perez (SU ’02) to create a sense of tradition and pride among the alumni. Discussion among the group also included the desire to start fundraising to assist the soccer program in the years to come. SU Alumni Director Paul Camfield was excited about the entire day. “ It is very humbling and exciting to see this kind of turnout, combined with their intent to give back to the soccer program.  We hope other SU sports alumni will follow suit in the years to come.”
