The Harry
Crate Lectures for the encouragement of careers in
scientific research were established in 2003 with an Elmore
Whitehurst Award courtesy of the Hatton Sumners Foundation.
Professor Crate taught engineering and mathematics at
Schreiner from 1940-1980.
