Favorite food: Grandma's kolaches
and anything chocolate
Favorite
vacation spot: Traveling around the world for the
past 25 years has proven Dorothy's adage: "There's no place like
home."
Who/what/where
INSPIRES you & why?: New ideas. Everyone's voice
contributes to a "heteroglossia" (a term coined by Bakhtin) meaning
the way we experience our world through communication, specifically
relationships. I love to hear how others have shaped and interpreted
their world.
What's on your night-stand right now?:
Stacks of home renovation books and magazines
Hobbies/interests/extra-curricular activities
outside SU: Currently renovating a 1902 Victorian
home
Activities/interests/associations
on campus: Judicial Board, Faculty Affairs
Committee
Favorite class to teach @ SU and why: Relational
Communication. I love to watch the awe on student faces when they
discover that their relationships aren't just emotional attachments,
but a way of knowing and experiencing the world. When they “get it,”
it is an aesthetic moment for me and them!
Why do you like Schreiner?
I have had the rare opportunity to create a
communication studies major from the ground up at Schreiner. Very
few professors can say that! The administration, faculty and
students have been incredibly supportive with great ideas and wisdom
in getting the degree plan in place. Great people and a beautiful
campus – it’s the most exciting place to be on the planet.
