Dr. Tom Wells
title:
Professor (Exercise Science and
Interdisciplinary Studies)
hometown/state:
Luling, Texas, but Kerrville is home now
your alma mater:
UT-Austin
favorite movies:
"Brain Donors", "The Holy Grail", "Jaws"
favorite food:
French fries (emphasis on the French)
|
|
favorite music/band/type of music:
Roots Rock/Rockabilly. If there's a better song than Jim
Stringer and the AM Band doing,
"Looking for Romeo", I'd like to hear it.
favorite vacation spot:
Day trip-wise, it's Austin, hands down. A real vacation -- Seattle
is mighty nice on several levels.
what's
on your night-stand right now? (book/music/DVD):
Chomsky's "Keeping the Rabble in Line" and Thomas' "Cuba"
<< note: Tom is an accomplished author
of several books;
his latest novel is
DROP-INS
who/what/where INSPIRES you & why?
Anyone overcoming a stacked deck and making progress toward their
goals.
hobbies/interests/extra-curricular activities OUTSIDE SU:
reading, writing and exercising, with the writing emerging as my favorite
lately.
activities/interests/associations
ON CAMPUS:
AAUP and keeping the "Speak Truth To Power" program up and
running. Plus, there are a couple of secret campus societies I belong
to, but I can't divulge those because they are secret... (well, the
Trismegistus Society isn't so secret... I'm the Assistant Grand Decoder
for that one...)
favorite
class to teach @ SU & why:
Global Issues in a Cultural
Context for two reasons: (1) It allows me to have contact with students
outside the EXSI discipline and (2) It helps keep me current on issues
affecting us all.
why (do you like) Schreiner?
It's probably the only university in the world that would hire someone
like me and then have it work for both parties. It is a close-knit
community, top-to-bottom; left-to-right.
