Who/what/where INSPIRES you & why? My family, my wife Stephanie, my children, Tom, Mike, and Janey. They are a constant source of strength and amusement.

What's on your night-stand right now? (book/music/mag/dvd/whatever):  Stephen King's "Dark Tower, Book Seven," Yann Martel's "Life of Pi," Joe Klein's "Woody Guthrie: A Life," "The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous" and Bill Watterson's "The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes"

Hobbies/interests/extra-curricular activities OUTSIDE SU: The study of martial arts, creative writing, bike-riding with my kids

Activities/interests/associations ON CAMPUS: Director of New College, Director of the Center for Innovative Learning, Coordinator of the S.U. Popular Culture Symposium, lead singer for the faculty rock and roll band, Phil 'N' the Blanks.

Favorite class to teach @ SU & why: I enjoy all of my classes. If I absolutely HAD to pick just one, I'd select Creative Writing because it's such a pleasure to work with talented young writers.
 
Favorite food: Southern Fried Chicken & Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Corn Bread

Why (do you like) Schreiner?
So many reasons. The quality of the students. My colleagues. Location in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The courses. And really, truly, the amazing students that I get to share a bit of their remarkable lives with for a short time.
