Student Leader of the Month
Features & Blogs
Nicholas Lee Newland of Bellaire, Texas has been named Schreiner University Student Leader of the Month for December.
Dr. Charlie Hueber, dean of students at SU, had this to say about Newland, “Nick is a senior communication design major. He has been directly and indirectly involved as a leader within different departments on campus. One of Newland’s more specific leadership roles is as a member of Phi Delta Theta, where he currently holds the position of Warden, however, he is known more for his undefined leadership roles and his friendly nature and willingness to help his fellow students. Nick is the student who shows up to events with his camera in hand ready to capture the actions of the event. This has led him to a work-study position with University Relations; however, he would do it regardless because that is who he is. Through his actions Nick brings with him a positive energy that is contagious. He often is unaware of his leadership capabilities, as he is one not to seek praise, however, his energy, positivity, and willingness to help others often draws individuals to him. He has assisted many different groups on campus as the person most student groups go to if they need a DJ for their event. He also is one of the students who have volunteered to participate in specific events, such as, Dancing with the ASA Stars and Delta Phi Epsilon’s Cinderfella. He is the type of individual who can be relied upon in any situation. Nick has done great things at Schreiner University and we are excited to further witness the legacy he leaves behind, but also anxiously anticipating the legacy he will begin beyond Schreiner.”
The Student Leader of the Month, sponsored by Student Services, recognizes a Schreiner University undergraduate student for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities and/or through volunteer and community service programs
