Federal Pell Grant
This Federal grant is awarded to students who have
demonstrated significant financial need. PELL awards are
based on a family contribution scale and payment schedule
published annually by the U.S. Department of Education. For
the 2009-2010 academic year, the Pell grant range is from
$400 to $5350 for a full-time student.

Federal SEOG
The Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is awarded to
students who demonstrate significant financial need.
Following federal guidelines, it is awarded only to Pell
recipients.

Limited funds are available. Renewal students meeting
eligibility requirements are given consideration, along with
students demonstrating the greatest need.
Federal Academic Competiveness Grant (ACG) are basic
entitlements available to first and second year students who
have successfully completed a state-approved rigorous high
school curriculum, are eligible for a Pell grant, are U.S.
citizens, are enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours
per term), are working toward a degree but have never been
previously enrolled in a degree program, have completed high
school after January 1, 2006 for first year recipients and
after January 1, 2005 for second year recipients, and
maintain a 3.0 GPA. The first year ACG amount is $750. The
second year ACG amount is $1,300. To receive the second year
ACG, a student must have completed at least 30 credit hours
and have a 3.0 GPA.
There are no renewals for third or fourth year awards.
Federal SMART Grant
The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent
Grant, also known as the National SMART Grant is available
during the third and fourth years of undergraduate study to
full-time students who are U.S. citizens, eligible for the
Federal Pell Grant, enrolled full time, and who are majoring
in physical, life, or computer sciences, mathematics,
technology, or engineering or in a foreign language
determined critical to national security. The student must
also have maintained a cumulative grade point average (GPA)
of at least 3.0 in coursework required for the major. The
National SMART Grant award is in addition to the student's
Pell Grant award. Third and fourth year students are
eligible for $4000 for each year. Students may only receive
the grant for the specific semester and/or year that they
maintain all of the criteria.
Federal
TEACH Grant
A non-need based grant for students majoring in education
with an emphasis in a designated high need field. Junior and
Senior level students who have been approved by the
Education Department due to their cumulative grade point
average (3.25) and/or entrance test scores will be notified
by the Office of Financial Aid. Due to the fact that this
grant has a service agreement attached to it, each recipient
must attend in-person entrance counseling and subsequent
counseling sessions each semester before accepting their
grant funds. Grants up to $4,000 per year are available to
eligible students. Contact the Office of Financial Aid for

Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG)
This need-based grant is awarded to Texas residents to
help them meet the cost of attending a private university in
Texas. Since funds are limited, priority in awarding will be
given to students who demonstrate significant financial
need. Institutional, State and some Federal funds are
limited each year based on funding notices and allocations
received from the University Board of Trustees, State
Agencies and the Federal Department of Education.
Renewal criteria for awards received after 9/1/2005 require
students to complete 24 credit hours within the academic
year and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or
better, in addition to maintaining satisfactory academic
progress and exhibiting financial need. Appeal requests are
handled through the Office of Financial Aid.
