How to do it |
| |
|
-
Find them and ask
-
FIRST, Are they
looking for me?
-
Second, Am I willing
to do what they are asking?
-
Print the info and
decide when to work them
-
Read the info from
beginning to end with a highlighter in your hand
-
Highlight important
stuff
-
Put info in month you
plan to work them
|
|
Do it! |
| |
|
|
|
Tips |
| |
|
-
Fill out the
applications completely.
-
Print legibly or type.
-
Submit all requested
information.
-
Read directions
thoroughly and make sure you follow them
-
Don’t be in the first
culling!
-
When you start to
compose your essay, write down exactly what they say
about the essay.
-
Then just brainstorm.
Write down everything you can think of concerning the
topic.
-
Then go back and
organize your ideas into a fluid concept. This seems to
be the hardest part for most people. You just have to
start somewhere!
-
Start with your graded
papers
-
Read directions
thoroughly
-
Make everything you
submit clear, concise and positive
-
PROOFREAD! And ask
someone else to proofread your work.
-
Errors (structural,
grammatical or spelling) will count against you – use
the Writing Center
-
Keep your original
reference letters (sending copies) so you don’t have to
keep asking for new ones
-
Remember you are
trying to get some organization to give you money for
school, so everything you do should be geared towards
convincing them of this.
|
|
Where to find the
money? |
| |
|
-
Federal sites
-
State sites
-
Your school sites
-
“Outside” sites
-
Local sites
-
National search
programs
-
Professional
organizations
|
|
Finally… |
| |
|
-
Just do it! You can’t
win if you don’t try!
-
Like everything else,
the more you DO the better you will get at it.
-
See this as more than
just the money – there are opportunities and connections
attached to all these scholarships.
-
This is a skill you
will use all your life.
-
The Financial aid
office is happy to help you with applying for
scholarships.
-
Good luck!
