The
Women’s Chamber
is a community service organization founded in
1972 as a Division of the
Kerrville Area Chamber of
Commerce. In 1997 they reorganized
and formed the Kerr County Women’s Chamber, Inc.
With a current membership of 125, and a mission
to work to improve the Kerrville community
through charitable, civic, and environmental
projects and programs, the donation to the Hill
Country College Fund was chosen to support the
educational opportunities available at our local
university.
Other community projects currently supported by
the membership include:
• Women Helping Women Scholarship Program –
scholarships available to women seeking to
advance their careers by pursuing a degree.
• Beautification awards and projects – monthly
awards are presented to recognize outstanding
landscaping efforts of individuals and business
throughout the community. Additionally, over the
years trees, benches, and other enhancements
have been made to local parks. This year a
$1,000 donation was given to the Doyle School
for a landscaping project.
• Outstanding Woman of the Year Award –
presented annually at the Chamber of Commerce
banquet.
• 4 of July concessions – members provide food
and drink items and games for the children in
Louise Hays Park in support of annual 4th of
July celebrations.
• Holiday Lighting of Tranquility Island
• Recycling of ink and toner cartridges in an
effort to save our environment by keeping these
items from our local landfills.
• Food bank donations – donations are collected
monthly for local food banks.
• Christian Women’s Job Corp Mentors – members
volunteer to teach classes and serve as mentors
to CWJC students.
Membership to the Women’s Chamber is open to
anyone wishing to be involved in making
Kerrville a better place. Information may be
obtained by contacting Membership Chairman, Fay
Faure’ (739-4537). Monthly lunch meetings are
the first Wednesday of the month.
Since the Hill Country College Fund began in
1977, it has provided more than $8 million in
need-based tuition assistance to students from
Kimble, Kerr, Gillespie, Kendall, Bandera, Real,
and Edwards counties and helps more than 250
Hill Country students annually. Hill Country
College Fund grants provide an average of over
$2,900 a year per recipient and one hundred
percent of funds raised goes to student
scholarships.
