Hill Country College Fund begins 2008-09 Drive

Schreiner University has kicked off this year’s Hill Country College Fund. Campaign leaders announced that $101,070 has been raised in advanced gifts toward this year’s $220,000 goal.

“This campaign makes a huge impact on generations of students,” said Lucy Gould, associate director of annual giving at Schreiner. “For some Hill Country College Fund makes the difference in continuing on to college or not going at all.”

HCCF provides need-based tuition grants to Schreiner students from Kerr, Gillespie, Bandera, Kendall, Kimble Edwards and Real counties.

This year's campaign Chairman is Stan Cobbs, former Director of Church Relations at Schreiner and Vice-Chair Linda Somerville, Security State Bank.

HCCF Campaign Division Co-chairs are:
 -  Advanced Gifts Division: Bob Waller, Broadway Bank and Sue Steele, Bank of the Hills.
 - Business Division: Joe Herring Jr., Herring Printing Co., and Harold Crocker, Croker Real Estate.
 -  Community Division: Stephen Harris, Hill Country State Bank, and Cheri Rue, Wells Fargo.
 -  University Division: Dr. William Woods, Schreiner dean of the school of liberal arts, and Lane Barrington, administrative assistant, office of the president at Schreiner.

Dr. Tim Summerlin of Schreiner spoke about “What Scholarships Mean to Schreiner University,” and attendees also heard from two HCCF recipients, Jared Grove and Katelyn Van Slycke, about what HCCF has meant to them.
