To qualify for this award, a foundation must demonstrate
outstanding commitment through financial support and the
encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership
roles toward philanthropy and national, international and/or
community involvement.
Schreiner University nominated the Peterson Foundation for
this award. Contributing letters in support of the
nomination were: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Comfort Public
Library, Hill Country Charity Ball Association, Inc., Hill
Country Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Inc., Partners in
Ministry, Waring Volunteer Fire Department, and YMCA of
Greater San Antonio.
“The
Peterson Foundation is the most incredible partner any
community can have,” said Mark Tuschak, vice president for
advancement and public relations at Schreiner University.
“Whether it is funding scholarships for college students who
have financial need, responding to emergency situations, or
making sure our elderly and the people of our town have the
very best medical facilities, the Peterson Foundation
responds with enthusiasm. Kerrville would not be Kerrville
without the Peterson Foundation.”
The
Peterson Foundation, established by the Peterson
brothers, has not only supported innovation, but has also
acted, as a catalyst for innovative responses to health and
education needs for more than 60 years. Until recently, the
Peterson Foundation has been the only major philanthropic
entity dedicated to the needs of Kerr County and six
contiguous counties of the Texas Hill Country. From the
construction of the Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital, now a
burgeoning regional medical center, to the innovative
commercial streams of revenue they employed in the early
years to insure sustained funding for the hospital, the
Foundation has grown to become the regional centerpiece of
nonprofit support.
The
Association of Fundraising Professionals represents more
than 27,000 members in 180 chapters in the United States,
Canada, Mexico, and China working to advance philanthropy
through advocacy, research, education, and certification
programs.
