Garrett in Spain
Journal #5

Posted 10-27-03:

hello all! here are a few more pictures for you all to enjoy. the first one is an average scene of the weekends in granada. on weekends there is always entertainment on the streets.

this is a picture of a person playing with fire.
he has two ropes with a ball of fire at the end of each rope and he dances with the ropes at the rhythm of the music. you can not see the drum player but he is to the right of the man playing with fire. the drum player, by the way was blind. it was pretty impressive. i took this picture in the middle of plaza nueva which is a big nightly hang out. in granada, you would see a lot of this on weekends, and it is all free.

the second picture is in san jose which is a beach town on the cabo de gato. cabo de gato is a region southeast of granada and consists of a lot of pretty towns and the city almeria.

i emailed early and told you all that i hiked in san jose, well in this picture you can see some of the trails i hiked. i am actually on a trail when i took this picture and you can see that the trails overlook the water. it was beautiful.

the third was taken off the shore of san jose.
i liked the sailboat. it is hard to tell, (because i cut out part of the picture) but there are mountains behind the sail boat.

the next pictures were taken on the sunday of my san jose trip.

this was my first experience of bull fighting. this is in Granada's plaza de toros. these are all of the same torero (bullfighter). i thought he was the best one there. the fourth picture is of a torero. he is taunting the bull before he sticks the two poles (the poles have a name but i don't know what it is) into the bulls neck/back.

the fifth is a picture of him fighting the bull.
this is a prime example of what it looks like ´´¡ole!´´

in this picture you can see the poles in the bulls back. the sixth is a picture of the torero running away from the bull after he stuck the bull with the poles. at this point in the fight the torero is helpless. he does not have his cloak or his sword, only his quickness to run.

Well i hope you enjoy. i will send an email soon about my trip this weekend to seville.
besos a todo el mundo pues no los hombres...
parker
