Lilliana M.
Spain - Spring 2005

Journal #1
January 31, 2005

Hola! ... Sorry I hadn't written sooner but I´ve been so busy with all that Spain has to offer. There is so much to tell, but I will begin with my first encounter with Spain. I spent about a week in Madrid, which is a city that is a little to big for me. I visited the Royal Palace and the Prado museum among other things. We took an excursion to Toledo, where we got to witness the Reyes Magos arrive at the plaza. We also got to see one of the most famous paintings by el Greco.

I was fortunate to witness "La Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos" through the streets of Madrid. It is the parade of the year, with people lining up hours in advance just to catch a glimpse of the "Reyes". After that week of adventures, we proceeded to Salamnaca. This "pueblo" is so beautiful! There is so much history everywhere you look that it is almost hard to believe. With classes I haven´t had much time to explore all of Salamanca, but I was able to visit the cathedral. Salamanca actually has two, the old and the new as they differentiate them, that are right next to each other. Both are absolutely breathtaking!

Well up to now those have been my adventures in Spain. I am having a great time exploring and learning new things everyday. It has been freezing here, literally. The temperature has been between -10 degrees C and 20 degrees C since I got here. Spain might be the size of Texas, but I sure do miss our warmer winters! Other than being cold, I am enjoying my classes and living with a new family.

Well, I think that is it for now. Hasta luego!

Lilliana

p.s. picture number 59 is the Royal Palace in Madrid, number 150 is the inside of the new cathedral in Salamanca

stay tuned for more!
