Schreiner University to host Chautauqua Lecture Series Feb. 20
Schreiner University Provost and Dean of Faculty, Dr. Michael Looney, will present the next Chautauqua Lecture Series Monday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.
His lecture titled “Counterfeit Whiskies: The Chemistry of the Bar Scene” will be held in the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center Theatre.
The public is encouraged to attend this free event.
Looney said it is a long standing illegal practice of some less than reputable bartenders to substitute a less expensive brand of whiskey for a more expensive brand after a patron has enjoyed a few drinks. Of course, the bartender still charges the patron for the more expensive brand.
“I have developed a technique and database that can be used to determine this sort of substitution and I will present the results of two recent studies,” Looney said.
