Schreiner Students Take First Place in Global Competition

Two Schreiner University students took first place out of 2,926 teams who participated in a global strategic management simulation competition.  Team members who competed in the CAPSTONE global corporate simulation competition as the Digby Corporation were Andrea Neely of Ingram and Jarrell Williams of Copperas Cove.

Competitors come from all parts of the globe and include top business schools as renowned as the Harvard and Wharton business schools, as well as top Texas schools such as the University of Texas and Baylor University.

“The eight week CAPSTONE simulation by Management Simulations allowed our team to manage a multi-million dollar company for eight virtual years while competing against 2,926 other companies world-wide,” said Neely. “We gained valuable experiential knowledge while making hundreds of decisions weekly.”

Mark D. Woodhull, instructor of business administration and the team’s faculty sponsor, said the competition, which was held during the spring semester, is a business student’s culminating experience after four long years of business studies.

There were three other Schreiner University corporate teams competing in the same simulation. Baldwin Corporation chief executive officers, Ileana Espinosa of Harlingen and James Fluegel of Kerrville, captured 21st place out of the 2,926 teams who started the competition.  Chester Corporation chief executive officers, Jeremiah Kester of New Braunfels, Chase Kimball of Uvalde and Ashley Till of Houston, garnered 376th place of the 2,926 teams and ranked in the top 15% of participant teams.  Andrews Corporation chief executive officers, Wes Blankman of Hunt and Cody Lannom of Katy, claimed place number 1,002 of the 2,926 teams.

Schreiner University conducts the CAPSTONE simulation twice per year during the fall and spring semester sessions.
