Schreiner University Campus Ministry to hold Fundraiser at Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church

Schreiner University’s Campus Ministry is hosting a fundraising dinner at 5:30pm  and service at 7:00pm with the music of Taize Sunday, April 2 at Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church in San Antonio to gain support for a trip to France.

Taize, FranceThe Rev. Gini Norris-Lane, campus minister at Schreiner University, and former Associate Pastor of Northwood Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, along with 16 students and a sponsor are in the process of raising funds for a trip to Taize, France, May 11th - 22nd.

Schreiner students will lead the Taize Service, which is characterized by singing and prayer, at Beacon Hill, 1101 West Woodlawn. Donations will be received to raise money for the May trip.

Taize in the south of Burgundy, France, is the home of an international ecumenical community, founded in 1940.  The members who make up the community are Catholic and from a variety of Protestant backgrounds. They hail from more than 25 nations.

The 16 students who are going also represent an ecumenical community of Catholics, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Episcopalians and those from Non-Denominational Churches. Since the late 1950's, thousands of young adults from countries around the world have found their way to Taize to take part in weekly meetings of prayer and reflection.  They participate fully in the life of the community in Taize, which is centered in prayer three times a day.  In addition to prayer, those who go to Taize also join with people from other countries for meetings, meals, small group discussions and practical jobs.

There are two additional fundraisers planned for April 9. There will be one on the Schreiner University campus at 6 p.m., and another at First Presbyterian Church, 800 Jefferson, after the 11 a.m. service.
