Seminar on Restorative Justice to Precede Schreiner Conference
On June 24-27, 2007, a national conference on restorative justice will convene at Schreiner University. The conference will bring together community leaders, politicians, academics, practitioners, judges, faith leaders and concerned citizens to promote the implementation of restorative justice practices in communities across the nation as suited to local needs. Different approaches to restorative justice will be demonstrated, with practical solutions to today’s problems emphasized.
To offer students and community members the opportunity to prepare for the conference and to gain the most from participation, Schreiner University will offer a course in Spring 2007 called the Restorative Justice Seminar. Community members age 55 and over can audit the course for a tuition fee of $50 plus a $25 application fee; students or community members who want 2 hours’ credit for the seminar will pay $1320 in tuition plus the $25 application fee.
The national conference is a joint venture between universities, restorative justice practitioners, and the faith community. Sponsors include the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Texas at San Antonio; the SoL (Source of Light) Center at University Presbyterian Church, San Antonio; the Ghost Ranch National Conference Center of Santa Fe and Abiquiu, New Mexico; and Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. The conference planning team includes these sponsors as well as a diverse group of practitioners, academics, and faith leaders from both the interdenominational and interfaith communities.
The application deadline for this seminar and all Spring 2007 classes is December 1, 2006. To apply for either auditing or credit go to www.schreiner.edu/admission. For more information, on the conference go to www.restorativejustice.org/conferences/nationalconference.
