Schreiner University Announces
Baccalaureate and Commencement Speakers
Dr.
Diana K. Comuzzie,
Schreiner University professor of biology and dean of
the Trull School of Science & Mathematics, will deliver
the commencement address at Schreiner University’s 2006
graduation ceremonies on May 6 at 1:30 p.m.
in the Edington Sports Center.
Comuzzie received a
Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, with an emphasis
in aquatics, from the University of Texas at Austin in
1979. In 1982, she received a Masters Degree in Biology
from Southwest Texas State University, where she studied
calls of Central Texas sparrows, and a Doctorate in
Zoology from Texas A&M University in 1987, where she
worked on courtship in sea turtles in Australia.
Comuzzie received
post-doctoral training at the University of Kansas,
where she studied the acoustics of crying babies.
She has taught at
Schreiner for the past 13 years. Comuzzie was awarded
the Margaret Hosler Award for Excellence in Teaching,
the Harriett Garrett Award for Outstanding Teaching, the
Elmore Whitehurst Award for Creative Teaching and the
Advisor of the Year Award. She is married to research
scientist, Anthony G. Comuzzie, and has two children,
Andy and Matt. She is currently conducting research on
courtship signaling in red-eared slider turtles.
The
Rev. Buckner Fanning,
will serve as baccalaureate speaker at a worship service
at 10:30 a.m. on May 6
in the Edington Sports Center.
Fanning served as
pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio for 42
years.
In 1951, he founded
the Buckner Fanning Evangelistic Foundation, where his
ministry is now fully based.
He is a recipient of
The Tree of Life award from the Jewish National fund,
Clergyman of the Year, Family of the Year and many
others.
The 2006
commencement ceremony on May 6 will be Schreiner
University’s 23rd baccalaureate graduation since
conferring its first 4-year degrees in 1984.
One hundred and eleven students will receive bachelor’s
degrees and 16 will receive master’s degrees in
education.
