Live Telethon on Sept. 17 to Benefit Schreiner University’s Hill Country College Fund

KVHC Channel 15 is sponsoring a live telethon Saturday, Sept. 17 to benefit Schreiner University’s Hill Country College Fund.

Donations made during the broadcast will go directly to scholarships for students from Kerr and the surrounding counties who attend Schreiner University. The broadcast will be from 6-10 p.m. on KVHC Channel 15, Kerrville cable 10, and Center Point and Ingram Channel 11.

“We are here to serve the community as a broadcast channel”, said Mary Silver of KVCH Channel 15. “Telethons are events that we rarely host, but the Hill Country College Fund is something we believe in, and justifies an occasion to reach out to the community.”

Entertainment during the telethon will be provided by a talent competition open to the public with a cash prize of $500. Applications are now being accepted for the talent competition entitled “The Hill Country’s Got Talent.”

Applications are available at www.schreiner.edu or call 830-792-7201 for more information. The winner of “The Hill Country’s Got Talent” will be decided in part by judges and in part by the audience vote, so tune in to watch locals vie for the prize and bragging rights.

“This will allow our viewers to take part in making it possible for almost anyone in the Hill Country to get a college education. This telethon promises to be more than just about raising money… It will also be a lot of fun for the community to watch, and a great experience for all those that participate,” Silver said. The Hill Country College Fund began in 1977 and since then has awarded over $8 million to students from Kerr and surrounding counties. If you are interested in volunteering or giving to HCCF, please contact Schreiner University’s Director of Development, Mignonne Frantzen at 830-792-7208.
