The Texas Heritage Music
Foundation has designated the weekend of
September 29-30, 2006 for the tenth annual
Texas
Heritage Living History Weekend at Schreiner
University in Kerrville, Texas. More than 2000
people are expected on Friday, September 29, for
the opening day festivities at the Robbins-Lewis
Pavilion on the Schreiner campus.
Friday’s events will include a special tribute
to the songs and stories of music legend Jimmie
Rodgers, performed at noon on the main stage by
noted Kerrville actor Tony Navarra. The noon
tribute to Rodgers will be dedicated to the
memory of Wilton Crider, a man who not only met
Rodgers by the river, but also sang at every
tribute. Also, for
the first time ever, Texas gospel music will be
part of the 2006 celebration. Throughout the day
visitors can enjoy Old West and Native American
demonstrators; Texas history re-enactment
groups; chuck wagons and teepees; renowned
cowboy storytellers and poets; Texas heritage
demonstrators and educational exhibits; horse
shoeing demonstrations; the Texas Camel Corp;
and Native American education exhibits.
The full lineup of performers and events is
listed on the Texas Heritage Music Foundation's
website,
