Texas Music Coffeehouse Series
Wednesday, March 1 at Schreiner University to Celebrate Women’s
History Month
Texas Music Coffeehouse Series at Schreiner University will
celebrate Women’s History Month Wednesday, March 1 at
7 p.m. in the Floyd & Kathleen
Cailloux Campus Activity Center Corner Pocket.
The
night will feature performances by Carolyn Wonderland, El Saleh
and the Barnett Chapel Choir. The evening will begin with open
mike at 7 p.m.
It is free and open to the public.
Wonderland is a triple
threat with her diverse songwriting, soulful vocals, and guitar
goddess status she has a pedigree in the music business that’s
hard to match. A bit of a renegade, she likes to incorporate
elements of Blues, Country, Swing, Zydeco, Surf, Gospel, Soul,
and some nights, maybe even a Cumbia into the musical mix.
Recent years have seen her stretching out musically working some
expert whistling and scat singing into her shows.
In 1981, the U.S. Congress
passed a resolution establishing National Women's History Week.
The week was chosen to coincide with International Women's Day,
March 8. In 1987, Congress expanded the week to a month.
Texas Music Coffeehouse
is sponsored by Schreiner University Student Activities,
Schreiner University Center for
Innovative Learning, Best Buddies,
Texas Music History Foundation, and KFAN Radio “Texas Rebel
Radio” 107.9 and 103.1.
