Schreiner Professor Wins Children’s Story Contest

Dr. Mary Seay, associate professor of education at Schreiner University, won second place in the Florida Writing Association’s 2006 “Stepping Stones” writing competition for authors of children’s literature. The competition includes short stories, poetry, and book first chapters.

Seay’s winning entry in the short story category is entitled “Jake and Me,” and focuses on the experiences of two brothers who resolve a crisis in their lives through discovering the importance of mutual caring. The story is aimed at children ages 10-14, and is currently being reviewed for publication.

Seay, who specializes in early childhood development, was recently the featured presented in Schreiner’s ongoing Chautauqua lecture series, speaking to an overflow crowd on the topic “Teaching Babies to Read.” She can be contacted at mlseay@schreiner.edu.
