In a creative first,
the Schreiner University
choir and
theatre department will collaborate
in presenting an irreverent; avant-garde
staged choral experience entitled
“Passion.” The production encompasses
four movements: Birth, Life, Death, and
Resurrection, and promises to be one of
the highlights of Schreiner’s fall
schedule in the creative arts.
“Passion” will be presented on both
October 20th and 21st at
7:30 pm in Dietert Auditorium
on the Schreiner campus. The production
is free and open to the public.
The music for the production will be a
mixture of famous classical pieces such
as “Ave Verum Corpus” by Mozart and “How
Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” by Brahms,
spirituals and pop music such as “I Can
See Clearly Now” and “Oh Happy Day”, and
what co-producer Derek Horton, a
part-time faculty member at Schreiner,
calls “a generous dose of 20th century
American camp in a fun spectacle that
redefines our sense of what is sacred.”
In addition to the Schreiner choir,
directed by Michael Kahl, and student
actors directed by Horton, the
performance will feature a string
quartet from
Symphony of the Hills accompanied by
Terri Henneke-Theis.
