The Texas Music
Coffeehouse Series at Schreiner
University will present its second
performance of the 2006-07 academic year
on Wednesday, Oct. 4 with a
featured performance by
Drew Kennedy, sponsored by Sustain
Records and the Schreiner University
Center for Innovative Learning.
Kennedy is part of the Red Dirt
songwriter movement in Texas, and
prefers working in intimate venues such
as the Coffeehouse at Schreiner. He
comments “I like to give people a chance
to hear the words. I'll never pass at
the chance to sit in front of a room
full of people with just my songs and my
guitar.”
Kennedy, a Virginian turned Texan,
churns out songs about life, loss and
love with a powerful storyteller’s
voice. Kennedy’s songs bring to mind
masters like Steve Earle, Gram Parsons
and Hank Williams. His album “Hillbilly
Pilgrim” paints a broad musical picture
of life in America spanning the
legendary Mississippi riverboat era
through the age of small-town America,
from stories of bootleggers in West
Virginia to cowboys and outlaws on the
Texas frontier. |
