Former Vice President Al Gore’s environmental call to action,  “An Inconvenient Truth” will be shown at Schreiner University Oct. 2 and 4.

The first viewing will be Monday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m., and the second will be Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. Both showings will be held in the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center theater on the Schreiner campus. The showings are free and open to the public.

The movie, which made headlines when it opened in theaters, is being shown as part of Interfaith Power & Light’s “Spotlight on Global Warming,” an unprecedented inter-religious nationwide screening of educational films about global warming, featuring “An Inconvenient Truth.”

The movie, based on a speech that Gore has been giving for more than two decades, offers a passionate and inspirational look at one man's fervent crusade to halt the deadly progress of global warming in its tracks by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it.

As part of the activities, Schreiner and the First Presbyterian Church will host a visit from Anglican minister the Rev. Peter Harris. He is the founder and director of A Rocha International, which began in Portugal in 1983. A Rocha (Portuguese for “The Rock”) is an organization that is dedicated to spreading the message of God’s love for all his creatures, and is now active in 18 countries, including the U.S.

On Friday, October 6, Harris will speak and answer questions at the First Presbyterian Church beginning at 7:00 pm, offering slides and video that portray A Rocha’s efforts to protect creatures and habitats worldwide. He will focus on the imperative for the involvement of people of faith in caring for species and habitats around the globe.
