Schreiner sport shooters look golden at local match
The members of Schreiner University’s Shooting Sports Society recently took on skeet and trap shooters from Texas A&M and Trinity University at a two-day meet at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center. The Schreiner sport shooters almost swept the awards, taking home all the team awards and two of the individual awards, competing in American and international skeet and trap. The team is coached by Bill Thomas, who has a long career as a competitive shooter.
Two members of the Schreiner team will be competing in Olympic trials: Kent Freeman and Cameron Schuster. In April, Freeman, then a freshman, was named a 2007 All American by the National Skeet Shooting Society.
Members of the Schreiner team taking home the team awards were Kent Freeman, Cameron Schuster and Bill Thomas in American and international skeet; in American trap, Kent Freeman, Bill Thomas and Carlos Valdez; and international trap, Cameron Schuster, Carlos Valdez and guest competitor Kaitlin Barney of Ingram Tom Moore High School. In individual awards, Cameron Schuster took the top prize for American skeet and Carlos Valdez for international skeet.
