SU Men’s Basketball Heading to Mexico
Schreiner University men’s basketball team is headed to Mexico. For the first time in program history the SU men’s basketball team will be playing on foreign soil as they travel to Saltillo and Monterrey, Mexico to take on four Mexican universities.
The Mountaineers will be making their international trip during Schreiner’s fall break, leaving Friday, October 5 and returning on Tuesday, October 9.
The Mountaineers’ opponents during the Mexican tour will be the University of Monterey at Saltillo, University of Monterey at Hermosillo, Preparatory Tech at Saltillo, and Universidad Tecnológico de Monterrey, the four-time defending national champions.
Besides the games, the team will be doing a lot of sightseeing including checking out the museums, shopping and visiting the 40 million-year-old caverns of Grutas de Garcia.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for us as a team and individuals,” stated first-year head coach Drew Miller. “We have 22 players going on our trip, including 14 freshman. We had 10 great days of practice, and now we are all excited about the trip to Mexico. We will have a great basketball experience, but more importantly we will have an unforgettable cultural and social experience. I truly believe our five days in Mexico will create lifelong memories for our student-athletes.”
