Schreiner
University professor Lydia Kualapai will
host a discussion of Harper Lee’s “To Kill a
Mockingbird” at the first Monday Night
Fiction event of the 2007-08 academic year
at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10,
in the Scarle Phillips room of Logan Library
on Schreiner campus.
Lee’s story of a young woman coming of age
in the American south was published in 1960.
It focuses on the Finch family, especially
on Atticus Finch, a lawyer and his daughter
Jean Louise (Scout). The title comes from
Atticus telling his children that they can
shoot all the blue jays they want, but it is
“a sin to kill a mockingbird” because
mockingbirds do no harm.
This literary event is free and open to the
public, and refreshments will be served. The
discussions will be videotaped live for
later broadcast on Channel 2 Kerrville, a
public service program funded in part by a
grant from Humanities Texas.
