The Schreiner
University
volleyball team is the winner of an American
Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee Team
Sportsmanship Award for fall sports. Schreiner
shared the ASC West Division volleyball honor with
Howard Payne University.
“Although I hadn’t known about the award, I am not
surprised that we were considered for it,”
volleyball coach
John Greenlee said. “It is a reflection of the
seriousness with which our players view their role
as ambassadors for the school. It is worth noting
that the award was voted on by the players’ peers;
the Student Athlete Advisory Council members from
across the conference decided this award. I think
that it speaks to the high caliber of our
student-athletes that they were noticed for their
good sportsmanship. And this holds true for all of
our student-athletes, not just the members of the
volleyball team. I am proud of the members of my
volleyball team for having met the challenge of
those standards, and for having done so in a way
that was recognizable to their peers and
competitors.”
This is the first year of the award honoring member
institutions in each ASC championship sport that
best display positive qualities of sportsmanship and
fair play from their student-athletes, coaches and
fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete
Advisory Committees from the conference's 15 member
institutions vote on the recipients. Other winners
are LeTourneau University, McMurry University and
Mississippi College. |
