Senior citizens welcome to
audit Schreiner courses
Mortimer Adler said, “The purpose of learning is growth and our
minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as long as we live.”
Schreiner University also believes that learning has no age limit,
and offered 14 fall 2007 courses that area individuals 55
and older could audit for a nominal fee. (The list of classes
available for audit changes each semester.) Classes are open first
to regularly enrolled Schreiner students, then to auditors on a
space-available basis. Class size is restricted to maintain
Schreiner’s 13:1 student-teacher ratio. Auditors do not get class
credit, but will receive a certificate of completion from the
instructor.
Bill Thomas, who has audited a number of Schreiner classes, has been
very pleased with his experiences.
“After 50 years, I finally learned how to go to school. You get a
world-class education and you go to class when you want to, don't
have to take the tests and don't have to write the papers. We're
planning on taking more classes in the fall.”
The application fee is $25 (nonrefundable) and courses are $25 per
semester hour. The deadline for applying to audit courses in spring
2008 is December 1.
