Schreiner University will present “Teaching Your Baby Math,
and Why You Should” by Dr. Mary Seay as part of the Robert P. Hallman
Chautauqua Lecture Series at 7 p.m.,
Monday, Nov. 26, in the Cailloux Campus Activity Center theater.
Dr. Seay is an associate professor of
graduate studies at Schreiner. She received her doctorate in educational
psychology, specializing in gifted children, from Texas A&M University.
In her lecture, Dr. Seay will review techniques developed at The Institute
for the Achievement of Human Potential in Philadelphia, which were designed
to help parents teach math to their babies.
“From six to 18 months, babies have an incredible ability to absorb
information,” Dr. Seay said. “And they enjoy it, even though they can’t say,
‘Wow, this is fun!’”
All Chautauqua events are free and open to the public, and are
videotaped for later broadcast on Channel 2 Kerrville, a public service
program funded in part by a grant from Humanities Texas. For more
information, please contact Martha York at the Schreiner University Center
for Innovative Learning by calling 792-7352 or at
