Schreiner to host 17th ‘Expanding Your Horizons’ conference

Schreiner University will be host to middle school girls from all over the Hill Country on Saturday, Nov. 17, for the “Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics” conference. The annual conference is directed by Dr. Diana Comuzzie, professor of biology and dean of the Robert B. Trull School of Sciences and Mathematics at Schreiner, and co-sponsored by Schreiner and the American Association of University Women.

Pam Lewis

The keynote speaker for this year’s conference is Pam Lewis, a chemist and the founder of Pam Lewis & Associates, a scientific research and product development services company in Boerne.

“The Expanding Your Horizons Conference is one of the best things parents can do to encourage their daughters in science and mathematics,” said Comuzzie. “It’s inspiring and it is filled with wonderful role models. Most importantly, it’s fun. Be ready for your daughter to come home talking non-stop about everything she did.”

Attendees will be able to participate in lab projects, such as creating Web sites, creating a light show and examining strawberry DNA. Many of the labs are new this year.

The conference will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and costs $10 to attend (scholarships are available).  For details and registration information

For more information about the conference,
visit the EYH Web site or call Dr. Comuzzie at 830-792-7244.
