Kerrville, Texas — TG’s Public Benefit Grant Program, a philanthropic
initiative of TG, has awarded $116,000 to Schreiner University to help fund
academic support programs and student scholarships. This effort will lead to
greater student success in preparing for and earning a college degree.
To qualify for the award, Schreiner declared its intent to use grant funding
to continue to improve access to higher education opportunities and to
strengthen student support programs with a special emphasis on the needs of
rural students from low- to moderate-income families.
“Higher education remains a vital portal to the American dream and the
cornerstone of meaningful community development,” said Dr. Tim Summerlin,
president of Schreiner University. “We are committed to being an institution
of opportunity uniquely suited to serve the needs of Central Texas and are
excited that TG has chosen to support our efforts.”
“Our nation’s future depends on our ability to inspire students to achieve
all that they’re capable of accomplishing,” said Sue McMillin, president and
CEO of TG, a Texas-based, non-profit corporation that provides federal
student loan guarantees to help ensure access to higher education for
millions of students across the country each year. “By providing funds for
the Schreiner Student Success program, we’re pleased that TG can help change
the future for individual students, families, and society as a whole.”
Schreiner University was one of 46 nonprofit organizations selected for
funding. Overall, TG awarded more than $5.2 million for projects in
2007-2008.
