Larry ThomasTexas Poet Laureate coming to Schreiner classes

Larry D. Thomas, 2008 Texas Poet Laureate, will talk to Schreiner University students in Dr. Kathleen Hudson’s freshman writing classes on Thursday, Sept. 11. He will be in town to offer a writing workshop.

Thomas published nine collections of poems in the past 10 years, including his most recent, “New and Selected Poems,” published by TCU Press as the fourth volume of the TCU Press Texas Poets Laureate Series.

Thomas is a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee, and received the 2004 Violet Crown Award (Writers’ League of Texas), 2003 Western Heritage Award (National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum), two Texas Review Poetry Prizes (2001 and 2004) and a grant from The Ron Stone Foundation for the Study and Advancement of Texas History. His poetry also received a Poet’s Prize nomination (Nicholas Roerich Museum) and three Spur Award Finalist citations (Western Writers of America).
