Schreiner Shooter Takes Silver at ACUI Championship

Schreiner University’s Shooting Sports Society made a good showing in the 40th Annual Association of College Unions International Clay Target Championships April 9–13. Rachael Heiden took second place and won a silver medal in Women’s International Skeet. Heiden also placed fifth in Women’s International Trap and sixth in Women’s American Skeet. The Schreiner Shooting Sports Society’s top male shooter, Cameron Schuster, placed fifth in the Men’s American Skeet. The five-person team of Heiden, Schuster, James Heikkenen, Kenny Babcock and Will Drummond came in 15th out of the 40 teams competing in American Skeet.

The ACUI event attracted 290 student competitors representing 38 schools from across the United States. ESPNU will air the American Skeet competition June 13 and 20 and American Trap June 27 and July 4.

“I’m proud of our team effort,” Coach Bill Thomas said. “This is just our second year of competition, and we outscored a lot of other much larger schools. Our shooters got a good taste of competitive shooting and really liked it."
