Recall
weekend, April 11-13, is a time for former students from Schreiner
Institute, College and University to gather on campus, meet
old and new friends and marvel at the changes and new
buildings. The theme for Recall 2008 is Schreiner
Spirit Through the Ages, and everyone who has attended
the school from its military school days through the present
is encouraged to attend, especially the “decade” graduation
years. |

“This year
we are making an extra special effort to include the
Kerrville area community in our homecoming festivities,”
Paul Camfield, associate director of
alumni relations, said. “We have revived the homecoming
parade tradition and we hope that anyone with small children
will come to campus Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. to watch our
students, staff and alumni march around the Schreiner campus
loop. If anyone has a pet they would like to dress up in
Schreiner attire and participate in the parade, we welcome
that. It’s all to celebrate the tradition and legacy of
Schreiner spirit.”
There are a number of other
events during the weekend. It has become a Recall
tradition that one of the weekend’s highlights will be the
Annual Randy Shepler ’54 Golf Tournament at
Riverhill Country Club. The tournament is scramble
format and the shotgun start will be 1 p.m., Friday April
11. Greens fees will be $85 and there are sponsorships
available for $100 and $250.
Among other Recall events will be a Friday night dance, the
annual Military Tribute Breakfast, a reception and exhibit
for local artist Rusty Pendleton '67, Recall Picnic, Casino
Night and the Tribute to Schreiner Legends Banquet, all on
Saturday. At the banquet, Judge Robert Rhea Barton ’56 and
Spencer Blocker ’51 will be honored as
Distinguished Alumni. Dr. Robert Henry, coach at
Schreiner College from 1982 to 1994, and Charles H. Johnston
Jr. ’32 will be inducted into the
Athletic Hall of Honor.
