Monday Night Fiction to Discuss ‘Grand Opening’
Schreiner University professor of Spanish Pat Chastain will
host a Monday Night Fiction discussion of John Hassler’s “Grand Opening”
at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11, in the Scarle Phillips room of Logan
Library on Schreiner campus.
Hassler’s short story, “Dodgers Return,” provided the seed for this novel, a
story about coming of age in a small town. The story is narrated by
12-year-old Brendan, whose parents buy a grocery store in Minnesota in the
mid-1940s.
