“Parts of the Whole II,” an exhibition
featuring photos taken by Schreiner University students, faculty and staff,
will open Tuesday, Feb. 5, on the mezzanine of the Floyd & Kathleen
Cailloux Campus Activity Center on the Schreiner campus. There will be an
opening reception at 7 p.m., which, along with the exhibit, is open
to the public.
The Hill Country Camera Club selected the 60 framed and matted photos in the
exhibit from more than 130 submissions. All exhibit photos will be available
for sale via a silent auction that will begin at the reception. Proceeds
will go towards the Parts of the Whole scholarship, according to Dr. Lydia
Kualapai, who established the study abroad scholarship with funds she
received for the 2006 Elmore Whitehurst Award for Creative Teaching.
“This is a real community effort,” Kualapai said, “and not just the
Schreiner community, but the Kerrville community as well, with the help of
the Hill Country Camera Club and several friends of Schreiner who have made
donations to underwrite the costs of the exhibit and reception.”
Last year’s photo exhibition raised $2,000, and Kualapai hopes this year
will be at least as successful.
“We want to raise at least $2,000 to keep the scholarship funded,” Dr.
Kualapai said. “We hope to make this fundraiser an annual event.”
